Finally, you tailor your degree to fit your specific interests by taking certain nursing elective courses. Altogether, this has resulted in positive alumni outcomes and reviews.

Graduate Reviews of the BSN Program at Purdue University Global

Some former students left some positive reviews on GradReports. Here are a few of them:

“The best experience ever!! I’m glad I chose Purdue and I will recommend this college to my friends and family. Thank you Purdue for the wonderful experience and the awesome instructors.”

-Linbie (July 16, 2021)

“I completed the RN to BSN degree. PROS: The classes were self-paced, so I was able to take as few as 10 credits and as many as 22 credits in the 10-week Excel Track terms. I liked that I could be working on several classes at the same time. The classes were not difficult, just time-consuming. I would say that 90% of the BSN assignments were papers and PowerPoints, mostly covering nursing theory. It became quite redundant by the final term, but wasn’t difficult. Everything is self-taught. I didn’t have any pre-recorded lectures. You take the pre-test (which I felt was a waste of time), read anywhere from 1-10 readings/chapters, and complete the assignment.”

Amanda (May 8 2021)

“This PG online RN-BSN programs worked very well for my busy schedule. It was flexible and I was able to complete it at my own pace. I started on the traditional track and from a casual suggestion from one of the instructors I switched to the Exceltrak and I gained so much momentum in completing my courses, I think I averaged one course (credit) per week, maybe even, if rarely I was able to complete two. Most of the assignments offered flexibility so that the content I explored was related to what my interests actually were. Other assignments gave more specific directed instruction ie: evaluate avail resources for a specific patient population, and the patient population is given to you.”

4 Pros of Purdue University Global’s Online BSN Program

There are a number of benefits to getting your BSN with Purdue University as opposed to other programs. We discuss some of them below.

1. Positive Alumni Outcomes

One of the most important things to consider when enrolling in any BSN program is how well it will prepare you to succeed in your nursing career.

Fortunately, with Purdue Global University, the outcomes for former students appear to be great.

According to GradReports, the employment rate for graduates of this program is 98%. Additionally, the median alumni earnings for graduates is $71,230 (based on a sample size of 1,006 students). This earned the program an above-average salary score rating of 70/100.

2. Two Degree Pathways

Purdue University Global offers a traditional online RN-to-BSN program as well as an ExcelTrack BSN.

The ExcelTrack is a competency-based and accelerated pathway to earn your Bachelor of Science in Nursing. On this track, you get to decide on pace of learning, due dates, and course load.

This allows you to skip over the information you already know so you can focus on the areas where you need the most improvement. Finally, the ExcelTrack allows you to take as many courses as you like during each 10-week term for a flat tuition rate.

3. Earn Your Degree Faster

This school’s traditional RN to BSN program is designed to be completed in as little as 18 months of full-time study.

Meanwhile, the ExcelTrack RN to BSN program can be completed in more or less time depending on the course load you decide to take.

The quicker you can get your degree, the more money you’ll save overall.

4. Elective Courses

Finally, Herzing University allows you to customize your online BSN degree by offering nursing elective courses.

These courses are aligned to certifications recognized by Magnet, and they can help you prepare for optional certification exams after you’ve obtained your RN license.

These certifications display proficiency in a certain nursing specialty, which can help you stand out from other job applicants when you look for work. They can also help you obtain more advanced nursing positions.

Cons of Purdue University Global’s Online BSN Program

Unfortunately, it looks like this school only offers RN to BSN tracks. This means you’ll already need to be a licensed nurse if you hope to attend this program.

Also, while most of the reviews on GradReports were positive, one reviewer had this to say:

“Being in a program geared towards working adults I found it somewhat difficult that the instructors do not generally work on the weekends when many have more time to focus on school. Some instructors did grade/respond on weekends which was very helpful. However overall it was nice to be able to study at my own pace and finish my program in 30 weeks.”

-Melissa Short (April 21, 2021)

So, while you may not always get immediate responses from your instructors all the time, it seems that many instructors do put in the extra effort to help you succeed.

Conclusion

While you already need to have an RN license in order to enroll in this program, it is one of the best-reviewed RN to BSN programs we’ve come across.

However, if you’re still not sure this program is right for you, or if you’re a student without an RN license yet, there are plenty of other programs you could go with.
